Self-Surveillance Portraits (Hands, Parts I & II) (2020)
video-art, 8’15’’
Self-surveillance-portrait is a three part video art series using CCTV cameras and a switcher. Part I has two cameras mounted on top of eachother with opposite orientations, and same angle. hands have the cameras pointing at one another and part II is a 4-camera setup in a circle. In these works, I play with switching speeds and body movement as composition parameters to create a self-portrait. The sequence of frames synthesizes impossible bodies: I appear to touch myself and break my fingers (hands) or wrap my neck around (part II). On a frame level, glitch artifacts are encountered, since the cameras are not synced and capture occurs mid-switching, revealing instants in time in which multiple selves occur.
