cctv cameras, crt tvs, matrix switcher, steel
Commissioned by Freaky Dancing
Cinema Panoptica is a collaboration with interdisciplinary artist Roel Weerdenburg, where we merge our practices in surveillance gear appropriation. We were commisioned by Freaky Dancing, a series of events set in Utrecht that challenges club night programming and arts curation. The installation took over the main floor and bar area of WAS! in Utrecht.

This work is a direct continuation of surveillance cinema.
Research on networking and multiplexing of live images through algorithmically controlled matrix switchers. Surveillance cameras are spread around in the space and shown in multiple CRT TVs; hard cuts and sequences follow a generative set of rules resulting in a language of expanded and surveillance cinema.
